Description
Overview
The Mesa Rugged Notepad from Juniper Systems runs on the Windows Mobile operating system. It unites the benefits of a PC tablet and rugged handheld computer for collecting data in the field. Its 5.7-inch display makes it easy to read information even when there is glare from the sun. Two batteries give 16 hours of use to cover a full day’s operation.
The unit has an on-screen keyboard and function keys used most are located on the dashboard for easy access. Eleven screen functions control e-mail, texting, calendar, wireless interfaces, GPS, and power. Other enhancements include camera, GPS and user-controlled shortcuts. Various expansion options can be added, including the Mesa barcode scanner for use in hazardous locations.
The unit is built to withstand harsh use, including falls onto concrete, water immersion and scorching temperatures. It is strong enough to be used as a wheel chock if the truck starts rolling.

Review
“The Mesa is super-solid, offers excellent performance, great battery life, good ergonomics and ease of use while still weighing less than even a small netbook. No multi-touch here, and Windows Mobile 6.5.3 isn’t nearly as sleek and polished as what iPhone and Android users have come to expect, but it all works, and it also works in the field, in the rain, and with gloves on.”
